I Want to Marry Your Daughter

It’s the start of “wedding week” today. Abby and Devin marry on July 25, 2015. I wrote this in January but thought it fitting to post today.

“What are your intentions with my daughter?” I asked this gentle young man over coffee.

“Abby is really special. She’s a very special person. I want to marry Abby,” he replied directly.

I’m not sure as a little girl that Abby dreamed of the day this man would come and make his intentions known to me. She was busy dreaming about being an Avalanche hockey player.

But there came a day when she shyly told me that to get to sleep she thought about boys. She was away at soccer camp and couldn’t sleep so she called me. I wondered what she thought about boys exactly but didn’t ask.

And this man came into her life while she was in college. He is gentle. Kind. Compassionate. Authentic. Handsome. Friendly. Forgiving. Welcoming. Helpful. Hard-working.

DevinA man who loves God and follows after Him. “Let’s do something great for God today,” he prays.

A man who is humbly and unapologetically open to sharing who he is.
A man who lives simply in many ways but rocks style in other ways.

A man most of all who finds my daughter to be as special as I know she is. Who sees her heart. Who loves who she is and believes he wants to spend his life with her.

Abby is such a wonderful gift from God. Loving. Kind. Brilliant. Devoted and loyal. Beautiful. In love with Jesus. Funny and fun-loving. Adventurous and active. She’s amazing!

And now we have this new gift who may or may not be in our lives forever.

Either way, I’m grateful for him now. For Abby. And for us.

He is a special guy. And we are blessed to know him.

I knew that someday her prince would come and take her away. I just never realized how amazing it would be to have someone say those words about my precious daughter.

Living very grateful today.
